Effective Strikes (The Art of War) is a one-day seminar focusing on the strike and its
alternatives. The course reviews both legal issues and strategic questions critical to a successful economic
battle. Through role playing and instruction, the course covers how to establish an unfair labor practice
strike, where and when you can picket, how to use negotiations to set the stage for a strike and how to
prepare the press and members. The course emphasizes the need to prepare for a possible strike and thereby
gain negotiating leverage. Also explored are alternative in-house tactics that may be used in lieu of a
strike.
