Bio

Kelly Skahan joined the Firm as an associate attorney in 2018. The daughter, granddaughter, and sister of union members, Kelly has focused her studies and legal work on ways to achieve workplace equity. Her practice helps unions, worker-friendly electoral candidates, and mission-consistent nonprofit organizations use the tools at their disposal to get working people a seat at the table where decisions get made. Kelly regularly represents unions in unfair labor practice disputes, grievance arbitrations, and NLRB proceedings, and she helps bargaining units successfully negotiate collective bargaining agreements. In her mission-consistent practice, she supports nonprofit groups as they incorporate, apply for tax-exempt status, and further their advocacy. She also helps political candidates and committees navigate municipal, state, and federal lobbying and campaign finance laws.

Kelly earned her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law, where she was a member of the Women's Law Caucus and an associate editor-in-chief of the Washington International Law Journal. She was awarded the Mary Ellen Krug Scholarship in 2018 for her work in labor law. During law school, Kelly worked as a Peggy Browning Fund Fellow for Levy Ratner, PC, in New York. She also worked as an Oversight and Investigations law clerk for Senator Patty Murray's office at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions in Washington, D.C.; a writer and researcher for the King County Sexual Assault Research Center; a policy research intern for Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson; a Hazelton Fellow for Professor Anna Mastroianni; and a legal assistant for Breskin, Johnson, and Townsend in Seattle.

Prior to law school, Kelly worked as a public relations manager and freelance journalist in Seattle and an editor in New York. She earned her B.A. from Villanova University, where she studied English with a concentration in writing and rhetoric. She also attended New York University's spring exchange program, where she studied creative writing.
