History

Birthed from the massacres of Industrial Workers of the World in Everett and Chehalis in the second decade of the 20th century, Barnard Iglitzin & Lavitt LLP continues the fight to defend and extend the labor movement. Through the days of the Seattle General Strike, the Spokane Free Speech Fight, and the 1934 West Coast Waterfront Strike through some of the country's harshest labor strife of the Depression and afterwards, BI&L has stood side-by-side with labor unions. BI&L continues to stand in solidarity, supporting labor unions in the northwest and beyond. In today’s global and high-tech economy, we support the achievement of economic and social justice by working people in every aspect of their lives.

From our Seattle base, the firm currently represents over 150 public- and private-sector unions across the nation and numerous economic and social justice organizations. From advising on institutional structure and organizing to negotiation to litigation, BI&L is a full-service labor law firm. We concentrate on preventive law in an effort to minimize legal costs, but are ready to take on any challenge and to meet the needs of labor unions and organizations of any size.
